I hope your holidays have been as restful and pleasant as ours have been. To be honest, I am not exactly looking forward to returning to work next week, but the weather is predicted to become cold and rainy on Monday and Tuesday so perhaps it won’t be as difficult a transition as it might be. Today it is lovely here. Not too windy, and quite warm.
Despite the holiday festivities and numerous football games, Ron has made excellent progress with the retaining wall. It took several days to get the site prepped and the first course of stones installed and leveled, but the pace of things has really picked up now. I took photos from several different angles to hopefully give you a sense of how the wall is going to fit in the space. As can be seen in some of the pictures, Ron is installing a french drain at the base of the wall to improve and direct drainage, which is a really good idea since we will be planting a Japanese maple at the top of the wall tucked under the oak tree.

How exciting, Carol. It’s looking wonderful!
Hi Pam, This may be my best Christmas present ever! It seems like we were in the planning stage on this phase of the courtyard forever, but I’m glad that we waited until we settled on this solution. I am trying to enjoy the process, and not be too anxious to complete it.
I got some time over the holidays to look at the pictures of your new place on your blog, and to read about some of the plans that you are cooking up. Your new house looks lovely! I love the Japanese maple and the Mexican Buckeye. I can’t wait to see how you transform the landscape to suit your style.
Take care – Carol
