I know I haven’t done much blogging lately. It is sometimes hard to find the time. But work is keeping me very busy at the moment – which is good, and the nursery and gardens are consuming most of my other waking moments.
The weather has been wonderful (although a little more rain would be good). Today it might get as hot as 90 degrees F. That is a bit excessive, but a cool front is on the way tonight so tomorrow & Sunday look to be ‘chamber of commerce’ quality.
The vegetable gardens are the most productive I have had to date here in Texas. Fall seems to be the very best growing season in this geography. We have lots of large tomatos, peppers, okras, eggplant, chard, kale, collards, broccoli, all producing prolifically. It is really helpful to have a greenhouse to get seedlings going in so that I can plant my crops as fairly mature plants, at exactly the time when our weather starts to cool down.
I am planning to grow broccoli, cabbage, greens, lettuce, herbs, and root crops all winter long with the help of row covers, and those crops are now in the greenhouse – soon to be put out in the raised bed gardens. I took some pictures of those crops this morning. I have posted some of them below – (the fennel was grown from seeds my friend Diane gave to me).

There are a few other new pictures posted to Flickr as well (use Flickr widget on left to navigate there).
More to follow soon.
