New Yellow Knock Out Rose – The Sunny

Ron went to Whole Foods early this morning to pick up fresh fruits and veggies for us, and he returned with two nice looking yellow Knock Out roses. This rose, The Sunny (Rosa Radsunny) has been on my wish list ever since I saw an advertisement for it in Fine Gardening magazine last winter. I would never have thought to look at Whole Foods for roses though. What a pleasant surprise.

I planted the Sunnies in the south courtyard raised bed, one at either end. The one on the east end is surrounded by a New Dawn rose, a red Knock Out, a Flame Acanthus, and a Blackfoot Daisy, and the one on the west end is adjacent to the Copper Canyon Daisies with some lilac colored Budleia in the back of the bed.

It got down to 29 here last night, but I didn’t see any major damage to any of our new plants (we had most of them wrapped in row cover fabric). The esperanza had the most leaf damage of any of our mature plants, but not enough to be a problem. Rumor has it that tonight will not be as cold as last night.

Rock Rose Jenny recently posted about buying a Radsunny at Whole Foods in Austin, so I ran right out and got one there too. Who knew, right? I’ve been wanting the yellow Knock Out for a while. Doesn’t it smell nice too?

You know, I haven’t taken the time to “smell the rose” yet. Thanks for drawing my attention to the scent. I assumed that they would not have much of a scent since my other Knock Outs don’t have any.

They are lovely though.

I got my Radsunnies at Whole Foods too– the very last ones!– thanks to a heads-up from Pam. I’m looking forward to see how they compare to all of my other Knockouts.

Lori, Whole Foods is an amazing store isn’t it? Glad you were able to snag a couple Sunnies. I’m also hoping that they do as well as my other KOs! – Carol

Do you sell the yellow knockout rose – sunny?? Please quote a price as well as the size. Thanks

Hi Pat – No, we do not sell roses of any sort. As I mentioned in my post, we found ours at Whole Foods, but we have been able to find Knock Outs at several of our local nurseries. I have also bought nice quality red and pink KOs from Park Seed online, but they don’t seem to have the Sunny at the moment. I would caution against buying anything from Jackson & Perkins though. I ordered three blush KOs from them this spring and I still have not received them, nor any sort of communication from them to let me know that they couldn’t ship them. Totally unacceptable.

Hope you find what you are looking for. Regards, Carol
