I sent Ron to the Natural Gardener and Barton Springs Nursery today to search for the trees and vines that I selected to plant in the upper trellis beds. Much to my delight, he was able to find everything I wanted. We didn’t have time to plant them this evening, but we placed them in the locations where they will be to get an idea of how they will look, and I am pleased with the effect already.

After seeing Diana’s post [1] with the pictures of her great looking cross-vine I decided that was the plant I wanted growing on the trellis. We got three Tangerine Beauty cross-vines which should easily cover the entire trellis in a few years.

I placed the desert willow next to the grape vine at the east end of the trellis.

To the east side of the stairwell I have placed a Blanco crabapple.

To the west side of the stairwell I placed the Mexican buckeye. I have been wanting one of these trees for years. I am so thrilled to finally have one. I like the combination of the lavender color of the buckeye blooms with the tangerine and yellow color of the cross-vine.

Hi Blossom – I completely agree. The hardscape is nice, but the plants will be the main attraction in the days and years to come.

Wow. That is a beautiful trellis and beds. Glad my Crossvine gave you some ideas. I think it will look great there. I have a Mexican Buckeye seed – I’d love to have a tree out of it someday — they are wonderful. Good luck and keep posting pictures as it grows!
