We have a nice winter vegetable crop started in the greenhouse this year. We have half a dozen cucumbers, over twenty tomatoes, raspberries, lettuce, and some peppers. All of the plants are hooked up to a drip irrigation system. We are using liquid organic fertilizer applied in-line through the irrigation system which seems to be working really well. The plants are all very healthy and vigorous, with thick stalks and broad leaves. I will be planting spinach, chard, more lettuce, and some herbs over the holidays, which I can move out to the gardens later if we want to.

It feels like spring again today. The weekend is supposed to be nice and warm, but we may get sleet and snow again next week. The weather is a real roller coaster at the moment. I put out some pansy and viola seedlings that I started a couple of months ago this morning. I didn’t harden them off at all, so I’m planning to cover them up with row fabric on cold days and nights. We’ll see if they can manage.

That looks like a well put together drip irrigation system. It really does make life easier in the long run.

Hi Fred – the system is working pretty well for now, but we have grand plans for future enhancements.
We want to build a suspended system with separate zones and a more sophisticated timer and sensor system.
